Theatre Café | Sunday, 23 February 2025 at 3PM (Ticketed event)
Get ready to experience the epic tale “Tõll” written by famous Andrus Kivirähk, directed by Aare Toikka, with performers from Estonia live at our cosy Theatre Café! ![]() ![]() ![]() Nibble on delicious free snacks, sip some coffee or buy yourself something stronger from the bar and enjoy a performance that’s larger than life – just like the elusive Tõll himself. ![]() ![]() ![]() What’s all the excitement about? “Tõll” is a witty and imaginative play that explores the origins of the legendary giant, Tõll, while delving into the creation of myths and stories that bring adventures and hope to our lives. Rooted in authentic Saaremaa humour, the play is a versatile masterpiece – some will laugh uncontrollably, others may be moved to tears, but for most, the experience will linger for days. “Tõll” will walk with you, inviting reflection, revealing profound truths about the human experience, and uncovering the depths of your own imagination. The narrative suggests that every culture, from ancient times to the modern era, crafts larger-than-life figures – be they fairies, gods or superheroes – to embody collective dreams and beliefs. Although Tõll himself does not appear directly, the play shines a light on the process of how such legends come to life. What kind of world can we bring into existence through our imagination? And what happens when we sprinkle in a generous dose of good humour? Featuring a talented cast and creative team, the production brings this whimsical, thought-provoking tale vividly to life on stage. ![]() ![]() ![]() $25 for members of the Melbourne Estonian Society $30 for non-members $40 at the door Come for the culture, stay for the fun.
